Management Central PTF/Fix Send Function

Troubleshooting

Problem

This document notes the intended use of the Management Central PTF/Fix send function.

Resolving The Problem

The Management Central PTF/Fix send function is intended to be used only to send individual fixes from a model system to one or more target systems and not with cumulative fix package distribution. Transferring multiple PTFs at one time is not supported by Management Central at V5R1 and below.

To use the send function for fixes in Management Central, a fixes and software inventory must first be collected from each system. Once collected, using an option such as the Compare and Update Wizard or the Inventory collection option, a list of missing fixes can be displayed.

Note: Missing fixes are those found on the Model system; however, missing fixes are not found on the endpoint systems it is being compared to.

Once a list of missing fixes is compiled, send the save files of the missing fixes from a source or model system, and install the fixes to ensure the systems have the same level of fixes. You can also choose which missing fixes you want to send. You can launch the Compare and Update wizard from an endpoint system, a system group, or from a system in your list of connections.

You can distribute some or all of the fixes that you receive to a remote system with Management Central. However, you must have the save files to distribute the fixes. If you receive PTFs on media, use the Copy from Media function available from IBM iSeries Navigator to place the save files for the fixes onto your source system. Do the following:

1.Copy your fixes from media.
2.Collect your fixes inventory after you have copied the fixes. Right-click on your source system, select Inventory, and then select Collect.
3.Select All Fixes, Group Fixes, or a specific product to choose which fix or fix group you want to send and install.
4.Follow the wizard's instructions to send and install the selected fixes or fix groups.

Use Management Central to install an individual fix on your IBM System i products server if:
oIt is present on your system in the form of an IBM OS/400 or IBM i5/OS save file. The save file is stored in *SERVICE (PTF that was sent from service support, and the corresponding licensed program product is installed on your system.
oIt was loaded onto your system, either from media or from a save file, using the LOAD PTF (LODPTF) command or the GO PTF menu options.
oIt was temporarily removed (uninstalled) from your system.
