Existing devices
Currently enrolled devices that are on Android 5 and 6 can continue to enroll until further notification. However, these devices will not get the new agent versions released from October 2022 forward. The devices will be locked on the MaaS360 for Android app version 8.0.
Devices that are removed from MaaS360 will be able to re-enroll for the time being.
New Devices
New devices that are running on Android 5 and 6 can be enrolled into MaaS360, with the agent version 8.0 being the final update they will receive
Recommendation
Android 5 (Lollipop) and 6 (Marshmallow) were released in 2014 and 2015. They are no longer receiving security updates from Google or the OEMs that support them.
The general recommendation is to upgrade devices to OS versions still receiving security patches (Android 9+)
In cases where the device can not update beyond Android 6, clients should consider removing from the environment (especially if they have access to sensitive content) or replacing entirely with devices that can be patched.
Due to security and compliance requirements, MaaS360 will continue to deprecate the older versions of the OS year-after-year. To provide a consistent experience to all customers and keep the devices secure we recommend the devices to be always up to date on OS upgrades.
