Loss of access to data when collecting support log package (snap) for some systems running 8.4.0.10, 8.5.0.7, 8.5.3.0, 8.5.3.1 or 8.5.4.0

Flashes (Alerts)

Abstract

An issue has been identified that can cause a temporary loss of access to data when collecting a snap if the system contains a specific 10Gb Ethernet adapter. This issue only exists for systems running one of 5 affected software levels. Not all Spectrum Virtualize products support the adapter, so not all hardware platforms are exposed.

The exposed software levels are 8.4.0.10, 8.5.0.7, 8.5.3.0, 8.5.3.1 and 8.5.4.0
The exposed hardware platforms are SVC (DH8 and SV1 nodes only), Storwize V7000 (Gen2 and Gen2+ only), Storwize V50xx, Storwize V50xxE, and FlashSystem 50xx

Content

If you are exposed, do not collect any snap packages for any reasons until you have installed a fix.  If possible, upgrade to a later PTF that is not on the exposed list.  If a later PTF  on your preferred release is not available, contact IBM support for an ifix.
The IBM predictive support team has attempted to contact all exposed customers who have callhome enabled.  Therefore if your contact information in your callhome configuration is valid and you have not been contacted, you should not be exposed.
If your system is running one of the exposed levels, the following command can be pasted onto the command line to validate if the system has any affected adapters.

svcinfo lsnode -nohdr | while read id rest; do echo Checking node $id; echo -n " "; svcinfo lsnodevpd $id | grep -c 'XE201 10G' | tr -d '\n' ; echo " affected adapters found" ;done
The output looks like this and will tell you how many affected adapters you have in your system.
Checking node 1
   0 affected adapters found
Checking node 2
   0 affected adapters found

The Software Upgrade Test Utility prevents systems containing the affected Ethernet card from upgrading to the affected levels.
