JMS application fails to start due to CWSJR1181E errors

Troubleshooting

Problem

A JMS application is deployed on WebSphere Application Server . After restarting the application server, the JMS application fails to start and CWSJR1187E errors are logged in the Systemout.log

Symptom

WSVR0501E: Error creating component null [class com.ibm.ws.runtime.component.Application
ServerImpl]com.ibm.ws.exception.RuntimeWarning: com.ibm.ws.exception.RuntimeWarning: javax.
resource.spi.InvalidPropertyException: CWSJR1181E: The JMS activation specification has
invalid values - the reason(s) for failing to validate the JMS activation specification are:
[CWSJR1187E: The bus name on a JMS activation specification must be given a value]

J2CA0137E: The ActivationSpec validate() method failed with an InvalidPropertyException.
The ActivationSpec is XX(com.ibm.ws.sib.api.jmsra.impl.JmsJcaActivationSpecImpl),
which belongs to the installed ResourceAdapter cells/cellX/nodes/nodeX/servers/serverX/
resources.xml#J2CResourceAdapter_1200514984893 and is associated with the MDB Application
XYZMdb. See the following list of failed properties along with their values:busName
The exception is: javax.resource.spi.InvalidPropertyException:CWSJR1181E: The JMS
activation specification has invalid values - the reason(s) for failing to validate
the JMS activation specification are:CWSJR1187E: The bus name on a JMS activation
specification must be given a value

Cause

An Activation Specification with the same name was defined at multiple scopes

Resolving The Problem

Identify all the Activation Specs that have the same JNDI name but defined at different scopes. Remove all the duplicate Activation Spec and retain only the one at the required scope.
