Problem
With macOS Big Sur (version 11), there are various issues involved with using, installing, and updating Rational Developer for i 9.6.
Resolving The Problem
macOS Big Sur is not one of the supported platforms for Rational Developer for i 9.6.
The issues are being investigated and workarounds will be documented if found. In the meantime, it is not recommended to upgrade to Big Sur.
If you have already upgraded, you can either:
- Downgrade to a previous macOS release
- Install the product in a virtual machine running a supported release
- Or try the following steps:
- Download the latest IBM Installation Manager version (v1.9.1.5 minimum). For example: http://www.ibm.com/support/fixcentral/swg/quickorder?parent=ibm%7ERational&product=ibm/Rational/IBM+Installation+Manager&release=1.9.2.0&platform=Mac+OSX&function=fixId&fixids=1.9.2.1-IBMIM-MACOSX-X86_64-20211222_1411&includeRequisites=1&includeSupersedes=0&downloadMethod=http&source=fc
- After downloading the Installation Manager .zip file, from Terminal run 'xattr -c <Path to the Installation Manager .zip file>' before you extract it to avoid some MacOS Gatekeeper issues.
- Extract the .zip file.
- From Terminal, in the folder where the file is expanded, run './userinstc -acceptLicense' to silently install Installation Manager in User mode.
- Start the User mode IBM Installation Manager, add a product repository of 'https://www.ibm.com/software/repositorymanager/com.ibm.rational.developer.ibmi.v96', and then install RDi.
- After RDi is installed and running, there are additional steps potentially required if you want to install 3rd party plugins.
- Define https://download.eclipse.org/eclipse/updates/4.6/ as an Update site in Preferences
- Use Help>Install New Software or Help>Eclipse Marketplace to install the 3rd party plugins
- Disable https://download.eclipse.org/eclipse/updates/4.6/ as an Update site in Preferences to avoid problems updating RDi.
