RETAIN tip: H211178
Symptom
The IPMI logs indicate Slot 2 assert/deassert when the Redundant Array of Independent Disks (RAID) logs do not indicate anything being in the hard disk slots.
Affected configurations
The system can be any of the following IBM servers:
- System x3650 M4, type 7915, any model
The system is configured with one or more of the following IBM options:
- ServeRAID M5110e SAS/SATA Controller for IBM System x, onboard, any embedded
This tip is not software specific.
Solution
Check the hard disk drive ID (SGPIO) cable to ensure that it is pushed in correctly in the port on the Expander card and on the Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) backplane.
Additional information
The SGPIO cable contains the sideband signals, which effect the numeration and messaging between the SAS controller and the backplane. It must be firmly seated to ensure electrical continuity.
