Problem

When viewing the Integrated Management Module (IMM) System Status page via the web interface and it is left open for a long period of time, the page may stop responding.

Symptom

When viewing the Integrated Management Module (IMM) System Status page via the web interface, if the page is left open for a long period of time, the web page may stop responding.

Affected configurations

The system may be any of the following IBM servers:

  • System x3200 M3, type 7327, any model
  • System x3200 M3, type 7328, any model
  • System x3250 M3, type 4251, any model
  • System x3250 M3, type 4252, any model
  • System x3250 M3, type 4261, any model
  • System x3400 M2, type 7836, any model
  • System x3400 M2, type 7837, any model
  • System x3500 M2, type 7839, any model
  • System x3550 M2, type 4198, any model
  • System x3550 M2, type 7946, any model
  • System x3550 M3, type 4254, any model
  • System x3550 M3, type 7944, any model
  • System x3650 M2, type 4199, any model
  • System x3650 M2, type 7947, any model
  • System x3650 M3, type 4255, any model
  • System x3650 M3, type 7945, any model
  • System x3850 X5, type 7145, any model
  • System x3850 X5, type 7146, any model
  • iDataPlex dx360 M2 Server, type 6380, any model
  • iDataPlex dx360 M2 Server, type 7321, any model
  • iDataPlex dx360 M2 Server, type 7323, any model
  • iDataPlex dx360 M3 Server, type 6391, any model

The system is configured with one or more of the following IBM Options:

  • Integrated Management Module (IMM)

This tip is not software specific.

The system has the symptom described above.

Solution

This behavior is corrected for the listed products in the following versions:

  • System x iDataPlex dx360 M2 (7321,7323, 6380) - 1.14 (build 73M)
  • System x iDataPlex dx360 M3 (6391) - 1.14 (build 73M)
  • System x3850 X5 (7145) - 1.14 (build 73K)
  • System x3950 X5 (7145) - 1.14 (build 73K)
  • System x3550 M2 (7946, 4198) - 1.14 (build 73M)
  • System x3550 M3 (7944, 4254) - 1.14 (build 73M)
  • System x3650 M2 (7947, 4199) - 1.14 (build 73M)
  • System x3650 M3 (7945, 4255, 7376) - 1.14 (build 73M)

The target date for the other releases is scheduled for Third Quarter of 2010.

The file is available by selecting the appropriate machine type on the 'Software and device drivers - IBM System x' web page, at the following URL:

Workaround

Do not leave the IMM web pages open on the System Status page for long periods of time.

After clearing any pop-up messages, if the web session still does not respond, the user should:

  1. Terminate all current web sessions and start a new one.
  2. If the user is unable to start a new web session, the user may try using telnet or SSH to access the IMM, and issue commands to query the health state and show the log entries.
If the above steps fail to wake-up the web interface, the IMM must be reset using one of the following two (2) methods:

Method 1

Use the Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI) command.

ipmitool -H x.x.x.x -U userid -P password mc reset cold

where x.x.x.x is the Internet Protocol (IP) address of the IMM userid/password on a valid account on the IMM.

Method 2

Usie the F1 setup menu of the host.

Additional information

Until the targeted code becomes available, the Workaround provides information to:

  • Prevent the symptom from occurring.
  • Instruct the user on how to "wake up" or restart the IMM if the symptom occurs.
