1.0 What you will need

You must have the following software for the installation:
  • A licensed copy of Microsoft Windows Server 2003 (WS03) installation CD.
  • A licensed copy of WinPEv1.2 , which is available from Microsoft or a part of Microsoft Windows Server 2003 OEM Preinstallation Kit OPK on SW CD Windows Svr 2003 English #1 OPK Tools OEM (referred to in this document as the OPK Tools CD).
  • The latest Windows Server 2003 device drivers that you can download from the IBM Support Web site.
  • For the xSeries 445 server only: The custom IBM Hardware Abstraction Layer (HAL) for Windows Server 2003.

2.0 Where to download device drivers and files

You can download device drivers and files from the following sites:
3.0 Instructions for creating Microsoft Windows Preinstallation Environment (WinPE) version 1.2 bootable CD

To create a Standalone Windows Preinstallation Environment (WinPE) version 1.2 (with Intel and BroadCom Gigabit Ethernet Adapters) CD, complete the following steps. This procedure is based on Windows 2003 Server Enterprise Edition and uses the Windows 2003 Server Enterprise Edition OPK Tools WinPE v1.2 CD.

  1. To complete the preliminary set-up:
    1. Insert the OPK Tools CD into the CD drive.
    2. Copy the WinPE folder from the OPK Tools OEM to your hard disk drive. You need the mkimg.cmd and oscdimg.exe files from the WinPE Folder of the OPK Tools CD. On the command line, type copy e:WinPE\*.* d:\WinPE\*.*
    3. Create a build_location folder (subdirectory) on your hard disk drive to contain the files for your WinPE image.
    4. Remove the OPK Tools CD from the CD drive.
  2. To generate the WinPE Image:
    1. Insert the Windows Server 2003 (WS03) Enterprise Edition installation CD into the CD drive.
    2. Run the mkimg.cmd command from the WinPE subdirectory that you created in step 1b. d:\WinPE\mkimg.cmd e: d:\build_location
    3. Remove CD from the CD drive.
    4. Insert the OPK Tools CD into the CD drive and copy all the files from the i386 folder into the build_location folder. On the command line, type xcopy e\i386\*.* d:\build_location\i386\*.* /y/s/e/v/q.
  3. To add device drivers:
    1. Copy the .sys files of the network device driver to d:\build_location\i386\System32\Drivers For example, copy b57xp32.sys (or e1000325.sys and e1000nt5.sys)
    2. Copy the .inf file of the network device driver to d:\build_location\i386\inf For example, copy b57xp32.inf (or e1000325.inf)
    3. Also copy the .inf file of the network device driver to d:\build_location\i386
      Note
: The .inf file must be in two directory locations: the i386 subdirectory and the INF subdirectory.
    4. Copy any remaining files (.dll, .exe) of the network device driver package to d:\build_location\i386\System32
      Note
: If you are creating a WinPE image for an xSeries 445 server, copy the custom HAL file (halx44n.dll) into d:\build_location\i386\System32, rename it to halaacpi.dll as follows. On the command line, type copy halx44n.dll d:\build_location\i386\system32\halaacpi.dll
  4. To create a bootable ISO image file:
    1. Navigate to the WinPE subdirectory on the hard disk drive. For example: cd d:\WinPE
    2. Run oscdimg.exe from the WinPE subdirectory to create a no emulation bootable ISO image of your build_location subdirectory. On the command line, type: oscdimg -b.\etfsboot.com -n -h d:\build_location d:\winpe.iso
The oscdimg.exe executable file creates the bootable WinPE.ISO image that you can burn to a CD.
