Supported system: IBM eServer xSeries 260 (Type 8865)

Follow the instructions in this document in sequential order unless these instructions advise you otherwise. Windows and messages might differ from those in this document. Throughout this document, the term select is used to denote the use of arrow keys, the Tab key, or Alt + a letter combination to make a selection from a menu. The term click is used to denote the use of a mouse to make a selection.

You must have the following software and hardware for the installation:

• A licensed copy of Microsoft Windows Server 2003 64-bit Edition.
• Supported hard disk drives. Go to http://www.ibm.com/servers/eserver/serverproven/compat/us/ for the ServerProven list of supported options and part numbers for the server.
• The IBM ServeRAID 8.00b (or later) Support CD, if you are using the IBM ServeRAID options.

To install Windows Server 2003, complete the following steps:

1. Turn on the server and insert the Windows Server 2003 Setup CD into the CD drive.

   Note: You might be prompted with the message "Press any key to boot from cd". Press any key to start the server from the Windows Server 2003 Setup CD.

   The files are copied from the setup CD. This process takes a few minutes.

2. When you are prompted to install Windows Server 2003, press Enter.
3. When the message "Setup is inspecting your computer's hardware configuration" is displayed, press F6 to install a non-IBM device driver.
4. If you are using a ServeRAID 8i controller, complete the following steps. For all other controllers, skip to step 5.
   1. Insert the manufacturer-supplied hardware support diskette for the AAC-ServeRAID 8i device drivers and press Enter.

      Note: To create the AAC-ServeRAID 8i device drivers and firmware support diskette, go to the IBM Web site at: Support matrix - SAS/SATA II (ServeRAID-8i) , navigate to and select the AAC-ServeRAID 8i device drivers and firmware, and then follow the prompts to download the device driver to a diskette.

   2. When the list of device drivers on the diskette is displayed, select AAC-ServeRAID 8i device drivers from the list and press Enter.
   3. Go to Step 8.
5. In the window in which you can manually specify a controller, select S to specify additional devices.
6. When prompted, insert the manufacturer-supplied hardware support diskette for the Adaptec SAS Controller and press Enter.

   Note: To create the Adaptec hardware support diskette, go to the IBM Web site at Software and device drivers - IBM eServer xSeries 260, navigate to and select the Serial Attached, and then follow the prompts to download the device driver to a diskette.

7. When the list of device drivers on the diskette is displayed, select Adaptec SAS / SATA 64bit driver for Windows Server 2003 x64 Edition from the list and press Enter.
8. After the files are copied from the diskette, press Enter. Files are copied from the setup CD. This process takes several minutes. When you are prompted to install Windows Server 2003, press Enter.
9. When the license agreement is displayed, read the license agreement, and press F8 to agree.
10. When Windows Server 2003 Setup displays all hard disk storage that is available on the server, use one of the following procedures:
    • Allow Setup to create a partition: To partition the entire hard disk as one primary partition, highlight non-partitioned space for the hard disk drive on which you want to install Windows Server 2003 and press Enter.
    • Create a partition: To create a partition, highlight Non-partitioned space for the hard disk drive on which you want to install Windows Server 2003 and press C. You are prompted to indicate how much available space to allocate from the nonpartitioned drive. Type the amount of space (in MB) and press Enter.
    • Delete a partition.
11. When you are prompted to select a file system, select NTFS file system. Setup formats the selected partition and copies the applicable files to the drive partition. This process takes several minutes. The server restarts to the graphical portion of Setup, and the installation of Windows Server 2003 continues. During this process, Setup automatically installs and configures devices in the server. This process takes several minutes.
12. Change the regional settings if you are not installing the server in the U.S. Click Next.

    Note: To modify the regional settings after installing Windows Server 2003, click Control Panel and click Regional Options.

13. In the Personalize Your Software window, when you are prompted for your name and organization, type your name and the name of your organization and click Next. The names that you type are used as default server names. Applications that you install on the server at a later time will use this information for the product registration and document identification.
14. When you are prompted for the Windows Server 2003 Setup CD-Key, type the Windows Server 2003 Setup CD-Key in the applicable fields. Click Next. (Setup uses the organization name that you entered previously as a suggested name for the server.)
15. In the Licensing Modes window, select the applicable licensing mode for your organization. Click Next.
16. In the Name and Administrator Password window, when you are prompted for an administrator password and server name, type the server name and password. Click Next. (Setup uses the organization name that you entered previously as a suggested name for the server.)

    Note: Passwords are case sensitive. Be sure to use a combination of uppercase and lowercase letters with at least one number for your password.

17. In the Time Zone window, set the current time. To change the date, click the button to the right of the date. To change the time, highlight the value that you want to change and enter the new values using the keyboard or the Up Arrow and Down Arrow keys. Click Next.

    Note: Windows Server 2003 services perform many tasks that are dependent on the accuracy of the time and date settings of the server. Be sure to select the correct time zone for the server location to avoid problems.

18. In the Networking Settings window, select Typical or Custom settings. If you are prompted, type the applicable network information. Click Next to install Windows networking components.

    Note: If the network controller card is not functioning, you are not prompted for network information. You can set up the network from Windows after Windows Server 2003 is installed.

19. In the Workgroup or Computer Domain window, select one of the following options:
    • No, this computer is not on a network, it is a network without a domain.
    • Yes, make this computer a member of the following domain.

    Type the workgroup or domain name in the applicable fields. Click Next.

    The remaining operating-system components are installed and configured according to the options that you specified. The display in the left column shows the amount of time remaining until the Windows Server 2003 installation is completed. This process might take several minutes.

20. Remove the Windows Server 2003 Setup CD from the CD drive and click Finish. Windows Server 2003 restarts.
21. After Windows Server 2003 starts, press Ctrl+Alt+Delete to log on. When the desktop is displayed, the Configure Your Server wizard starts. The wizard assists in the setup of the additional Windows 2003 components.

To install the device drivers and to identify hardware that is not functioning, open Device Manager. In Device Manager, non-functioning devices are usually listed under Other Devices and are indicated by a yellow exclamation point. To open Device Manager, complete the following steps:

1. Click Start.
2. Right-click My Computer.
3. Click Manage and select Device Manager in the left pane.

Use the procedures in the following sections to install the device drivers and to resolve any Unknown device.

To resolve an Unknown device, complete the following steps:

1. Go to IBM Active PCI Software for Windows 2000 and Windows Server 2003 (x86/IA64/AMD64) - Servers. Locate the Active PCI device drivers and use one of the following procedures:
   • Click Open to run the file from its location on the IBM Web site (preferred).
   • Transfer the file to a local drive, and double-click the executable (exe) file to run it.
2. In the Welcome window, click Next.
3. In the License Agreement window, click Accept to agree to the license agreement, and click Next.
4. Type c:\drivers\activepci for the folder where the files are to be saved and click Next. Later, you will specify this location when installing the device drivers.
5. In the Wizard Complete window, click Finish.
6. Open Device Manager, right-click Unknown device, click Properties, and click Reinstall Driver.
7. In the Welcome to the Hardware Update Wizard window, click Install from a list or specific location (Advanced) and click Next.
8. Select Search for the best driver in these locations, clear the first check box, select the Include this location in the search check box, and click Browse.
9. When prompted for the file location, browse to c:\drivers\activepci and click OK. Click Next to search for the new device drivers.
10. After the device drivers are installed, click Finish.
11. Close the Properties window.
