Follow the network operating system (NOS) installation instructions provided in this document in sequential order unless these instructions advise you otherwise. Windows and messages might differ from those in this document. Throughout this document, the term select is used to denote the use of arrow keys, the tab key, or Alt + a letter combination to make a selection from a menu. The term click is used to denote the use of a mouse to make a selection.

You must have the following software and hardware for the installation:

• A registered copy of Microsoft Windows 2000 Server Advanced with Service Pack 4 (or later) integrated.
• Supported hard disk drives. Go to http://www.ibm.com/servers/eserver/serverproven/compat/us/ for the ServerProven^(R) list of supported options and part numbers for the server.
• If you are using the IBM ServeRAID options, you need the IBM ServeRAID 8.30 (or later) Support CD.
• An external Universal Serial Bus (USB) diskette drive.

To install Windows 2000 Server Advanced on SAS hard disk drives, you must first create an Adaptec SAS device driver diskette. For SATA hard disk drives, skip to 3.2 Installing Microsoft Windows 2000 Server Advanced.

To create an Adaptec SAS device driver diskette, complete the following steps:

1. From an Internet-connected system with a diskette drive, visit the IBM Systems Support Site downloads page, scroll down and select the xSeries 206m link. Select the SAS/SATA link; then, locate and click the executable file link for the Windows 32-bit device driver.
2. When the Terms and Conditions window displays, choose one of the following options:
   • If you click I agree and FTP or HTTP is selected (FTP is the default), the File Download window displays. Click Save. The .exe file is saved to a local directory. Double-click the .exe file to run it.
   • If you selected the IBM Download Director radio button, and click I agree, the .exe file is saved to a location that you specify. When you are prompted to lunch the file, select Yes; then, go to step 3.
3. Press Enter several times to continue through the license agreement.
4. Type Y, then press Enter to accept the license agreement.
5. Insert a blank, formatted diskette, and press Enter. The device driver files are then extracted to the diskette.
6. When finished, press Esc to exit.

Complete the following steps to install Windows 2000 Server Advanced:

1. Attach an external USB diskette drive to the server.
2. Turn on the server, then insert the Windows 2000 Server Advanced Setup CD into the CD or DVD drive. Note: You might be prompted with the message Press any key to boot from cd. Press any key to start the server from the Windows 2000 Server Advanced Setup CD.
3. For SATA hard disk drives, skip to step 9. For SAS hard disk drives, continue to step 4.
4. When the message Setup is inspecting your computer's hardware configuration is displayed, press F6 to install a third party device driver.
5. When prompted, press S to specify additional devices.
6. When you are prompted for the manufacturer-supplied hardware support diskette, insert the Adaptec SAS device driver diskette and press Enter.
7. When the device driver name is displayed, press Enter.
8. After Windows 2000 Server Advanced Setup finishes copying files from the diskette, press Enter.
9. Windows 2000 Server Advanced Setup then copies files from the installation CD. This process will take a few minutes. When you are prompted to install Windows 2000 Server Advanced, press Enter.
10. When the licensing agreement is displayed, read the licensing agreement, press Page Down to scroll to the bottom of the screen, then press F8 to select I Agree.
11. Windows 2000 Server Advanced Setup displays all hard disk storage that is available on the server. Use one of the following options to choose or create a drive partition in which to install Windows 2000 Server Advanced:
    • Allow setup to create a partition: To partition the entire hard disk as one primary partition, highlight non-partitioned space on the hard disk drive and press Enter.
    • Create a partition: To create a partition, highlight the non-partitioned space on the hard disk drive. Press the C key; you will be prompted to indicate how much available space to allocate from the nonpartitioned drive. Type the amount of space (in megabytes) and press Enter.
    • Delete a partition.
12. After you select a drive to partition, you are prompted to choose a file system. Select the NTFS file system. Notes:
    • Setup will format the selected partition and copy the applicable files to the drive partition. This process will take several minutes.
    • The server restarts to the graphical portion of setup where setup will continue with the installation of Windows 2000 Server. During this process, setup will automatically install and configure devices in the server. This process will take several minutes.
13. The Regional Settings will default to U.S. settings. Make changes if you do not install the server in the U.S. Click Next. Note: To modify the regional settings after installing Windows 2000 Server Advanced, click Control Panel, then click Regional Options.
14. The Personalize Your Software window opens. When you are prompted for your name and organization, type your name in the Name field and type your organization in the Organization field. The names you type are used as default server names. Applications that you install on the server at a later time will use this information for the product registration and document identification. Click Next.
15. When you are prompted for the Windows 2000 Server Advanced CD-Key, type the Windows 2000 Server Advanced CD-Key in the applicable fields. Click Next.
16. In the Licensing Modes window, select the applicable licensing mode for your organization. Click Next.
17. In the server Name and Administrator Password window, you will be prompted for an administrator password and server name. (Setup uses the organization name, entered previously, as a suggested name for the server.) Type the server name and password. Click Next. Note: Passwords are case sensitive. Be sure to use a combination of upper and lower case letters with at least one number for your password.
18. In the Time Zone window, set the current time. To change the date, click the button to the right of the date. To change the time, highlight the value you want to change and enter the correct values using the keyboard or the Up and Down Arrow keys. Click Next. Note: Windows 2000 Server Advanced services perform many tasks that are dependent on the accuracy of the time and date settings of the server. Be sure to select the correct time zone for the server location to avoid problems.
19. In the Networking Settings window, select Typical or Custom settings. If you are prompted, type the applicable network information. Click Next to install Windows networking components. Note: If the network card is not functioning (expected for the server), you will not be prompted for network information. You can set up the network from Windows after installation.
20. In the Workgroup or Computer Domain window, select one of the following options:
    • No, this computer is not on a network, it is a network without a domain.
    • Yes, make this computer a member of the following domain.
    Type the workgroup or domain name in the applicable fields. Click Next.Setup installs and configures the remaining operating system components according to the options you specified. The display in the left column is the amount of time remaining until the Windows 2000 Server Advanced installation is completed. This process might take several minutes.
21. When Windows 2000 Server Advanced Setup has completed installation, the server automatically restarts.
22. After Windows 2000 Server Advanced starts, press Ctrl+Alt+Delete to log on. When the desktop is displayed, Windows 2000 Server Advanced displays the configuration wizard. The wizard assists in the setup of the additional Windows 2000 Server Advanced components that you selected during the installation process.

The procedures in the following sections will install the device drivers that are necessary to complete the set up of the server. Each of the following sections require you to open Device Manager. To open Device Manager from the desktop, click Start, right-click My Computer, click Manage, then select Device Manager in the left pane to identify hardware that is not functioning (indicated by a yellow exclamation mark usually listed under Other Devices).These instructions assume that you can access the IBM Web site and download the necessary files from the IBM Systems Support site download page.

To install the Broadcom NetXtreme II Gigabit Ethernet device driver, complete the following steps:

1. From a different internet connected system, go to the IBM Systems Support site download page, then scroll down and select xSeries 206m from the list. Select Networking and then click the executable file link for Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet Drivers Software CD.
2. When the Terms and Conditions window displays, choose one of the following options:
   • If you click I agree and FTP or HTTP is selected (FTP is the default), the File Download window displays. Click Save. The .exe file is saved to a local directory.
   • If you click the IBM Download Director radio button, and then click I agree, the .exe file is saved to a location that you specify. When you are prompted to launch the file, select No; then, continue to step 3.
3. Copy the driver package from its current location to the server; then, double-click the .exe file to run it.
4. In the Welcome window, click Next.
5. In the License Agreement window, click Next to agree to the License Agreement.
6. Type c:\drivers\nic for the folder where the files are to be saved. Click Finish.
7. Click Yes to create the folder.
8. When the message The package has been delivered successfully is displayed, click OK.
9. Navigate to c:\drivers\nic, and open the launch.exe file.
10. Click Driver Installer.
11. In the Welcome window, click Next.
12. In the License Agreement window, read the agreement, then select I accept the terms in the license agreement, and click Next to continue.
13. Click Install to begin the installation.
14. When the driver installation has completed, click Finish.

To configure the network, click in sequential order: Start -> Control Panel -> Network Connections -> New Connection Wizard, to set up the network connection.To configure network protocols, right-click Local Area Connection in the Network Connections window, then click Properties.To join a domain, click Start -> Control Panel -> System, click the Computer Name tab; then, click Change.

To install the ATI RN50/ES1000 video device driver, complete the following steps:

1. Go to the IBM Systems Support site download page, then scroll down and then select xSeries 206m from the list. Select the Video link, and then click the executable file link for ATI ES 1000 logo'd video driver for Microsoft Windows 2003 (32-bit and x64).
2. When the Terms and Conditions window opens, choose one of the following options:
   • If you click I agree and FTP or HTTP is selected (FTP is the default), the File Download window is displayed. Click Save. The file is saved to a local directory.
   • If you select the IBM Download Director radio button, and click I agree, the file is saved to a location that you specify. When you are prompted to launch the file, select No; then, continue to step 3.
3. Locate and right-click the .zip file; then, select Extract All.
4. Click Next.
5. Select a location to extract the device driver, then click Next.
6. Leave Show extracted files checked, and click Finish. A window is displayed showing the extracted files.
7. Click Setup.exe to run the downloaded executable file.
8. In the Welcome window, click Next.
9. In the License Agreement window, read the license agreement and click Yes
10. Click Express.
11. Select No, I will restart my computer later, then click Finish.

To install the Intel chipset device drivers, complete the following steps:

1. Go to the IBM Systems Support site download page, then scroll down and then select xSeries 206m from the list. Select the link for Other configuration, and then click the executable file link for Intel Chipset Software Installation Utility.
2. When the Terms and Conditions window is displayed, choose one of the following options:
   • If you click I agree and FTP or HTTP is selected (FTP is the default), the File Download window is displayed. Click Save. The file is saved to a local directory. Double-click the .exe file to run it.
   • If you select the IBM Download Director radio button, and click I agree, the file is saved to a location that you specify. When you are prompted to launch the file, select Yes; then, continue to step 3.
3. In the Welcome window, click Next.
4. In the License Agreement window, read the agreement and click Yes to agree.
5. At the Readme information, click Next.
6. After the device drivers are installed, click Finish (restarts the server).
