Installing Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 SP1 Redistributable Package with IBM Rational Rhapsody

Question & Answer

Question

IBM Rational Rhapsody fails to install the Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 SP1 Redistributable Package.

Cause

The Rhapsody software requires that the Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 SP1 Redistributable Package is installed on the system Rhapsody will be running.

With the release of Rhapsody version 8.2.1 the Rhapsody installation software attempts to install the Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 SP1 Redistributable Package automatically for the user. For some users the installation of these fails and this prevents Rhapsody from being installed.

Answer

To resolve this, it is recommended to install the Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 SP1 Redistributable Package outside of Rhapsody. Afterwards, you will be able to install the Rhapsody software.
