Troubleshooting
Problem
After installing WebSphere Application Server (WAS) V8.x fix packs, the error messages may be recorded in the log file of the Installation Manager. - Installation Manager cannot remove feature IBM 64-bit SDK for Java, Version 6 from the installation package. The feature is a required component. - Installation Manager cannot add feature IBM 32-bit SDK for Java, Version 6 to the installation package. The current version of the installation package does not support having more than one JRE.
Symptom
You can check the Installation Manager's log from File > View Log.

588 ERROR 08:02.41 Installation Manager cannot add feature IBM 32-bit SDK for Java, Version 6 to the installation package. The current version of the installation package does not support having more than one JRE.

Cause
During installation of the V8.x WAS fixpacks, the SDK feature selection detection logic is executed before the actual selection of the SDK feature. The logic may detect the modification of the SDK features incorrectly at that time and record the error message to the log file. After selecting the SDK feature, the SDK feature selection logic will be run again. If there is a modification of the SDK feature, the installation of the V8.x WAS fixpacks will be blocked and the error message will be recorded to the log file. Otherwise, the installation will be performed and completed successfully. However, the user may still see the SDK error message in the log file, but they can ignore this error message safely.
Resolving The Problem
No workaround.
This error message can be ignored safely when the operations of the Installation Manager are executed successfully.
NOTE:
This technote only states the error message "Installation Manager cannot remove feature IBM 64-bit SDK for Java, Version 6 from the installation package. The feature is a required component." can be ignored. Please review the install log to verify that no other error message is logged and versionInfo shows success.
