Troubleshooting
Problem
This document addresses the issue where when a user installs Cognos using the easy install option, the Informix content store and Informix services are not installed.
Symptom
- In the Cognos Configuration under "Data Access"->"Content Manager", there is no content store.
- When looking at the services running on the machine, none of the Informix services even appear on the list. Scanning the registry also shows that they are not present on the machine.
Resolving The Problem
Cognos must be installed by user as a local admin, not a domain admin. If you install it as the domain admin the Informix services don't get installed. You can make your user a local admin by following these steps:
- Log on as local admin
- Connect on the VPN
- Open Start | Computer Management | Local Users and Groups (or run lusrmgr.msc)
- Double-click on the 'Administrators' group
- Click the 'Add...' button
At this point, because you are on the VPN and the machine is a member of the domain, you should be able to click on the 'Locations...' button and select the domain as the location of the user list. At some point an authentication dialogue should pop up and you will need to enter your normal domain credentials.
Once the user has been added as a local admin, run the installer again and the content store and Informix services should be installed.
