Problem
You are using CICS Performance Analyzer for z/OS (CICS PA) to create a summary report and specify the EXTERNAL parameter for performing an external sort using a non-IBM SORT utility. The CICS PA job ends with message IEF450I ABENDS000 U0016 REASON=00000000.
Symptom
The performance summary report might also fail with the following messages even though the SORT messages indicate return code 0.

Cause
Using the EXTERNAL(ddname) sort on a summary job with a non-IBM sort utility. If the CICS PA performance summary report specifies SUMMARY(BY(xxx,xxx...) for only a few columns, the EXTERNAL sort is not necessary. The internal sort in virtual storage should be sufficient.
Resolving The Problem
Remove the EXTERNAL keyword from the CICS PA command and run the job again. If the job still fails after removing the EXTERNAL option, you should contact support for your SORT utility product.
