IBM Sterling Order Management System - Managing safety factors in Real-Time Availability Monitoring (RTAM) for specific Distribution Groups

Question & Answer

Question

How can safety factors be managed in RTAM when monitoring specific distribution groups (DGs) for physical store inventory updates without applying safety factors?

Answer

Currently, there is no built-in configuration option in RTAM to exclude safety factors at the node or distribution group (DG) level while monitoring inventory. However, there are several potential solutions to address this issue:
Option 1: Exclude safety factors for both nodes and DGs-
This approach may require system enhancements or the utilization of availability corrections to meet the requirement.
One can utilize the YFSGetAvailabilityCorrectionsUE user exit to modify availability information used for scheduling. It can be invoked from schedule or release transactions, but it may need to be called only once for each unique item on the order.
Option 2: Consider safety factors for nodes, but not for DGs. This option cannot be implemented through enhancement in Global Inventory Visibility (GIV) component and may require Inventory Visibility (IV) component.
Option 3: Apply safety factors for both nodes and DGs, then utilize YFSGetAvailabilityCorrectionsUE as necessary. This option involves applying safety factors as usual but employing availability corrections when needed to adjust availability information for scheduling purposes.
