Troubleshooting
Problem
The IBM Spectrum Protect Client may return error ANS1740W during a backup operation.
Symptom
During a manual or scheduled backup operation, the following error is returned by the IBM Spectrum Protect Client:
ANS1999E Incremental processing of '/var/opt' stopped.
ANS1740W Unable to read ACLs for object: /var/opt. Check dsmerror.log for more information.
Diagnosing The Problem
The dsmerror.log in this case, just repeats the same message as seen in the dsmched.log or the output of the backup command.
A client SERVICE trace gathered during the backup will show the following information (example from Solaris test system):
[000271] [3] : sun/psacl.cpp ( 557):
psGetACLTypeAndSize: FsType=59, AclType=1
[000271] [3] : sun/psacl.cpp ( 558):
psGetACLTypeAndSize: struct ace size for NFSv4 acls=12.
[000271] [3] : sun/psacl.cpp ( 268):
ACL:psGetFunctionPointer: dlopen returned handle: 0
[000271] [3] : sun/psacl.cpp ( 274):
ACL:psGetFunctionPointer: invalid handle to 'libsec.so'.
[000271] [3] : sun/psacl.cpp ( 320):
Invalid function pointer received for 'acl'.
[000271] [3] : sun/psacl.cpp (1699):
psStructACLGetAttrib: invalid 'acl' function pointer, retCode=11
The invalid handle means that the backup command is unable to interact with the libsec.so library of the system.
Resolving The Problem
The problem is with the library "libsec.so" (OS component necessary for handling the ACLs on all files on the system) which could be corrupted and so the backup command cannot interact correctly with it.
Ask the system administrator to check the library mentioned and in case, reinstall it.
