IBM Security Guardium : GIM installed successfully on solaris server but GIM services are not running

Troubleshooting

Problem

I have installed GIM on Solaris successfully. However, after installation GIM status is offline and the services are offline.

Symptom

GIM services always show in "offline" state.

root@xxx:/usr/local/guardium/modules/GIM/xxx# svcs -a | grep guard
offline        21:51:49         svc:/site/guard_gim:default

Cause

GIM is depended on "/system/system-log" service of Solaris so it must be running for GIM services to run after installation.

Diagnosing The Problem

Running command "svcs -x" from the GIM installation directory shows warning like "dependent services are not running" as below:-

svc:/system/system-log:default (system log)
 State: offline since June 10, 2020 at  6:33:07 PM IST
Reason: Unknown.
   See: http://support.oracle.com/msg/SMF-8000-AR
   See: syslogd(8)
   See: /var/svc/log/system-system-log:default.log
Impact: 28 dependent services are not running.  (Use -v for list.)
svc:/system/system-log:rsyslog (reliable and extended system log daemon)
 State: offline since June 10, 2020 at  6:33:07 PM IST
Reason: Unknown.
   See: http://support.oracle.com/msg/SMF-8000-AR
   See: rsyslogd(8)
   See: /var/svc/log/system-system-log:rsyslog.log
Impact: 28 dependent services are not running.  (Use -v for list.)

Resolving The Problem

1. Uninstall GIM

2. Enable /system/system-log service on the server

3. Reinstall GIM

If issue still persists share the following logs:

central_logger.log (from GIM install directory)
/var/svc/log/site-guard_gim:default.log
/var/svc/log/site-guard_gsvr:default.log
List of Guardium modules directory (eg. ls -ltr /usr/local/guardium/modules/)
svcs -l /site/guard_gim
svcs -l /site/guard_gsvr
svcs -l /system/system-log
