New VMware® ESX management infrastructure

You are in: IBM i Technology Updates > IBM i integration with BladeCenter and System x > New VMware® ESX management infrastructure

With the Management server based infrastructure for VMware ESX servers, IBM i Integrated Server Support administration functions, such as shutdown, do not run directly on the VMware ESX server. Instead, the VMware ESX Integrated Server Support functions run on a separate integrated Windows® server. The integrated Windows server serves as a management server for the VMware ESX server.

See the Integrated VMware ESX server management infrastructure section in the IBM i iSCSI Solution Guide for details.

The following IBM i PTF groups are used to deliver this enhancement:

5.4 PTF Group 6.1 PTF Group 7.1 PTF Group
- SF99357 Level 17 (September 2010) Base
