Abstract

This document describes the fixes provided in IBM Copy Services Manager 6.3.2.1, as well as how to download the installation files for CSM 6.3.2.1.

APAR / Issue DESCRIPTION

Defect 85416

Multi-target Metro Mirror Global Mirror with Practice sessions getting a 0xF74 error from the hardware when recovering and starting from Site 3.

 

Affected Domain   

Copy Services Manager servers with a MT MM-GM w/ Practice sessions defined.

 

Description   

The DS8000 systems does not support doing a force failback to a target volume that is already in a multi-target relationship.  In the DS8000 9.2 release, a change was included to return a 0xF74 error when a force failback is attempted to a target that is in a multi-target.

 

Mitigation 

Any customer running a MT MM-GM with Practice session is highly recommended to upgrade to the 6.3.2.1 fixpack or higher of Copy Services Manager. 

 

NOTE: In order to avoid the 0xF74 error, the session has to remove the relationships at H1 that lead to the condition.  This means that any start from Site 3 will result in a full copy of the data from site 3 to site 1.  In addition, when you recover to Site 1 and start the site 1 to site 3 copy, a full copy of the data will occur.

An alternative to avoid the full copy would be to use the Multi-Target Metro Mirror Global Mirror session without the practice volume and setup a separate FlashCopy session to coordinate a flash for practice purposes.  A Scheduled Task can be used to coordinate the flashes.  While this would result in no longer “recovering the way you practice” by attaching your hosts to the same volumes, on the mainframe side there are now alternatives to ensure you IPL off the correct volumes.

After upgrading the Copy Services Manager from a version prior to 6.2.4, the server may fail to startup

 

Affected Domain   

Any servers at a level 6.2.3 or lower, attempting to upgrade to a CSM 6.2.4 level or higher.

 

Description   

Copy Services Manager servers upgrading to 6.2.4 or higher may complete the upgrade but fail to startup.  The Java level shipped with 6.2.4 deprecates some files that cause Java to fail on startup. 

 

Mitigation 

The 6.3.2.1 version and higher will no longer hit this issue. 

A workaround to this issue prior to 6.3.2.1 is to manually remove the following files after the upgrade.

<install_dir>/wlp/IBM/jre/lib/security/US_export_policy.jar
Defect 85385

After issuing a takeover on 6.3.1 or higher, Spectrum Virtualize storage systems get an error when attempting to issue commands to the hardware. 

 

Affected Domain   

Copy Services Manager servers at 6.3.1 or higher, running sessions using Spectrum Virtualize based storage systems.

 

Description   

In the 6.3.1 release, all Spectrum Virtualize storage systems were renamed in the product to provide a more generic title.  If a takeover is issued to a server running 6.3.1 or higher the takeover may fail to properly rename the hardware leading to internal errors when attempting to issue commands to the hardware

 

 

Mitigation 

Copy Services Manager 6.3.2.1 or higher will no longer have this issue during takeover.  Prior to 6.3.2.1, a customer can stop and restart the Copy Services Manager server to correct the issue and commands to the hardware will start working again
Defect 85306

DS8000 Global Mirror sessions return a 0xFCA error when attempting to change the consistency group name for the session

 

Affected Domain   

This issue only affects customers running on DS8000 9.3 microcode and creating multiple Global Mirror sessions on the same Logical SubSystem.  

 

Description   

In DS8000 9.3, a new feature was added to support creating multiple Global Mirror sessions on the same Logical SubSystem.  When attempting to change the DS8000 session ID for a session a 0x’FCA error occurs

 

Mitigation 

All customers running DS8000 9.3 microcode and wanting to create multiple session IDs on the same Logical Subsystem will need to move to the 6.3.2.1 release or higher. 

APAR PH44672

After performing an Incremental Resynchronization in a Metro Global Mirror cascaded session, reissuing the command to start the session in three site mode, may result in the session entering a bad state and a full copy occurring.

 

Affected Domain   

Copy Services Manager servers using Metro Global Mirror cascaded session types. This does not apply to Multi-target MM-GM session running in cascaded mode.

 

Description   

After issuing the command to start the session back into a full three site mode, if a customer reissues the start command, the session will enter a state that removes relationships on the hardware preventing the ability to transition to three site mode without a full copy..

 

Mitigation 

Upgrade to the Copy Services Manager 6.3.2.1 fixpack to avoid the issue.  Prior to upgrading to 6.3.2.1 avoid issuing the start command more than once when going from a two site Incremental Resync mode back to full three site mode.

Upgrades

This refresh pack is a full version of IBM Copy Services Manager. The refresh pack media does not include the enablement files.  If installing without the enablement files, the install will be done with an Evaluation license agreement and the enablement files will need to be applied later for full functionality of the product.
