IBM Cloud Manager with OpenStack: Pacemaker failure may result in OpenStack reporting state of running service incorrectly

Troubleshooting

Problem

IBM Cloud Manager with OpenStack relies on a number of OS delivered services to function. Pacemaker is an open service delivered via RHEL which IBM Cloud Manager relies on. If Pacemaker fails, IBM Cloud Manager with OpenStack may report an incorrect state of services on the system.

Symptom

Pacemaker may report:
error:pcmk_child_exit:     Child process lrmd exited: Operation notpermitted (1)

Cause

A defect in Pacemaker, details from Redhat: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1284069

Diagnosing The Problem

Check the /var/log/messages for pacemaker reporting error:pcmk_child_exit:     Child process lrmd exited: Operation not permitted (1)

Resolving The Problem

Redhat has fixed this defect in Pacemaker 1.1.13

At this time IBM Cloud Manager does not support using Pacemaker 1.1.13

This may be avoided by more frequent restarts of the services (weekly).
