Problem

Often network administrator needs to review where their SMTP servers is able to send normal email prior to trying to configure notifications and alerts component of RPM . This technote identifies how network administrators commonly may test their SMTP Services Manually in Windows Server 2003 © before attempting to test their RPM notifications functionality. Resolving The Problem


1) Type the command “Telnet” in the command prompt .
2) Press Enter
3) Type “set LocalEcho” in the Telenet prompt
4) Press Enter
5) Type" open <machinename> 25"
6) Press Enter.
7) Type “helo me
8) Press Enter
9) Type the command “mail from:email@domain.com
10) Press Enter
11) Type the command “rcpt to:youremail@yourdomain.com
12) Press Enter
13) Type “Data
14) Type”Subject:test in progress disregard”.
15) Press Enter twice
16) Type “Test
17) Press Enter
18) Press ENTER, type a period (.), and then press ENTER.
19) Type “Quit
