How to tell if an IBM Rational DOORS module was once part of an RTF import

Question & Answer

Question

How can you tell whether an IBM Rational DOORS module was once part of an RTF import?

Cause

You may need to determine this if you are diagnosing performance problems in a module that could stem from the presence of certain RTF objects.

Answer

To determine whether an IBM Rational DOORS module was once part of an RTF import:

  1. Open the module containing the picture in the Rational DOORS client.
  2. In the module's Edit menu, choose the Columns... command.
  3. Then click the New... button in the resulting window.
  4. In the Attribute drop-down list, if the module was once part of an RTF import, you will see RTF Pict attributes available for selection. (These are not attributes you can display by enabling Show Advanced system attributes, and Show Advanced system attributes does not need to be checked for you to see them.)

We do not recommend adding columns for these RTF attributes to your view, because it may slow the Rational DOORS client down considerably (refer to the warning below). However, if you do need to see exactly which pictures came from an RTF import and are willing to accept the performance degradation, these attributes will be populated for pictures that came from an RTF import.

WARNING:
Adding these RTF Pict attributes to your view may cause Rational DOORS to slow down while rendering large objects in these attributes, even with older versions of Rational DOORS; with Rational DOORS 9.2.0.1 and 9.2.0.2, the slowness is so extreme the client may appear hung.
