How to reset search indexes for Cognos Analytics

Summary

This document guides you through the process of resetting search indexes in Cognos Analytics 11.1.x and 11.2.x.

Objective

Properly reset indexes and resolve issue causing no results returned in search results.

Steps

In order to resolve this issue, do the following:

  • All the sub directories of <install location>/data/search/ must be deleted

  • Note <install location>/data/ may have been reconfigured to alternate location in Cognos Configuration, in which case use that location instead

Steps for Cognos Analytics 11.0.x

CA 11.0.x index reset doc 
As of Cognos Analytics 11.1.7:
A new crawler functionality was implemented that allows the search index to check for new or missing items in it´s index on startup.
Support can be involved, if we encounter challenges.
1. Restart the environment
2. Wait and check cognosserver.log and cogaudit.log for completion of search crawler
3. Search for newly created object.

After completing these steps, please allow time for the index files to rebuild.

*Please note that the documentation for startup/shutdown order is for Cognos 10.2.2 and below, however it is applicable for Cognos 11.0.x and 11.1.x as well.

Additional Information

Note: Files and Folders that users do not have permissions to see in the environment will not show up on search.
Known situations that might corrupt the search index:
- Content Manager Failover
- Content Manager Java process ended unexpectedly
