How to increase the error description level in the XMI Toolkit log file

Question & Answer

Question

How do you increase the error description level in the IBM Rational Rhapsody XMI Toolkit log file?

Cause

By default the XMI Toolkit only outputs errors messages to the log file. It does not output the full Java stack error message.

Answer

  1. If Rhapsody is already open, close Rhapsody.
  2. Open the XMI4Rhapsody.bat file at the <RhapsodyInstallation>\Sodius\XMI_Toolkit\bin directory.
    For example, C:\Program Files (x86)\IBM\Rational\Rhapsody8.1.5\Sodius\XMI_Toolkit\bin\XMI4Rhapsody.bat
  3. Make the changes marked in bold to the following line:

    "%XMIJDK%\bin\javaw.exe" -Dcom.sodius.mdw.core/debug/disableAttemptRecover=true -Xss4M -Xmx512m -Djava.library.path="%XMIRHP%\Share\JavaApi" -classpath "%XMIRHP%\Share\JavaApi\rhapsody.jar;%XMIDIR%\lib\XMI4Rhapsody.jar" com.sodius.toolkit.rhapsody.launcher.ToolkitLauncher -toolkit.directory "%XMIDIR%" %XMITVAR%

  4. Run Rhapsody and run the XMI Toolkit operation again.  The process will exit at the first error but it will also provide more detail.

This should result in two log files: System_err and System_out
