Question & Answer
Question
How does one modify the display-name of the application in the EAR or the WAR file?
Answer
The following files define the display-name for the WAR (Web Application
Archive) file and the EAR (Enterprise Application Archive):
-
web.xml for WAR files
- application.xml for the EAR file
The Sterling SFS/MCF EAR file
contains different WAR files based on the command issued to build the EAR. The
default EAR file created is “smcfs.ear” and it typically contains
at least “smcfs.war”.
To change the
display-name of the application in the smcfs.war file:
- cd <INSTALL_DIR>/repository/eardata/smcfs/extn
- Copy web.xml.sample to web.xml
- Edit web.xml to add the display-name as follows:<display-name>smcfs</display-name>
- Rebuild the EAR and verify that the smcfs.war has the display name set
Modify the web.xml for any other WAR file built, to
incorporate it into the EAR.
It is however, not
possible to change the display-name in the “application.xml”. The
EAR build command generates a new “application.xml” and sets the
display-name to “Sterling Applications”. However, it is possible to
change this display-name during EAR deployment.
