How does daylight savings time impact Guardium schedules?

Question & Answer

Question

In US, for places that observe Daylight saving time, it starts on the second Sunday in March when the clocks are moved forward from 2:00 a.m. to 3:00 a.m and ends on the first Sunday in November when the clocks are moved back from 2:00 am to 1:00 am. How does this change in the computer clock affect the IBM Security Guardium scheduler if it's configured to adjust the clock automatically with NTP?

Answer

When Daylight saving time starts the clocks are moved forward from 2:00 a.m. to 3:00 a.m and the Guardium appliance has as a task scheduled for 2:10 a.m. every day, the scheduler will not trigger the task for that day.

When Daylight saving time ends the clocks are moved back from 2:00 am to 1:00 am and the Guardium appliance has as a task scheduled for 1:30 a.m. every day, the scheduler will run the task twice for that day.

NOTE: Guardium NTP polling interval is dynamic and can vary between 64 and 1024 seconds by default. These are recommended values and are not configurable through CLI.
