Question
How do IBM Cognos Command Center Agents Work?
Answer
Before using IBM Cognos Command Center Agents, it is best to understand how they work within the central Cognos Command Center Server.
Step #1 - See how a Cognos Command Center Unix Agent is used by Cognos Command Center to execute File Resources that are streamed and remotely deployed on a Cognos Command Center Agent.
In this example, the CCC central server sends a command to a Cognos Command Center Agent hosted on a UNIX server to start Process Task #1. See the blue dotted arrow. The required File Resources are streamed to the Agent from the Automation Repository. See the red dotted arrow.Step #2 - See how results are returned to the IBM Cognos Command Center Server.
The results of the Task run are returned to the CCC central server. See the blue dotted arrow. Sample results might be exit codes or console out results.Step #3 - Observe what happens to streamed File Resources after they are no longer needed.
Note that the remote File Resources required for the Task have been automatically deleted from the UNIX Agent. Next Process Task #2 is run on a CCC Agent hosted on a Windows server.Step #4 - See how remote IBM Cognos Command Center Agents are used.
CCC Agents do not have to run on local computers. Here Process Task #3 is run on a cloud-based server. This diagram also demonstrates how live Process updates can be sent to a web-based browser operating on a Smartphone. The remote Cognos Command Center Agent returns the results to the CCC server. The server then sends out another live Process update to the Smartphone.
