Question

With the removal of Java applet support in Internet browsers, how do I launch the Process Designer, Process Administrator and the other Case Foundation Process Engine Java applets in Content Platform Engine 5.5.4 and higher?

Cause

Due to the removal of Java applets in the supported Internet browsers, IBM released thick-client versions of the Content Platform Engine Content Engine (Content Engine) and FileNet Process Engine (Case Foundation) Java applications.

Answer

With the Content Platform Engine 5.5.4 and higher releases, IBM provides the CPE Client Tools.
NOTE: The Process Administrator and Process Configuration Console functionality can be accessed directly in the Administration Console for Content Engine (ACCE):
  • Process Administrator functionality can be found in ACCE > object store > Search > New Workflow Search (button)
  • Process Configuration, under ACCE > object store > Administrative > Workflow Systems > Isolated Regions > (your isolated region) expand to see Queues, Roster, Event Log configuration items
The CPE Client Tools include the Process Engine Client Tools that provide access to the FileNet Process Engine Java applications on all Content Platform Engine Supported Operating Systems (not just Windows). 
Using the Process Engine Client Tools, you can directly launch the java applications, among other improvements over the Stand-Alone Process Designer application (released in CPE 5.2.1 FP7 and later).
The tools can be installed on your Content Platform Engine 5.5.4+ server, or a non-CPE server.  The tools can also be installed on a client (nonserver) computer (such as a MacBook or Windows laptop).
To gain access to the CPE Client Tools, there is an extra download available in Passport advantage.  Download the Content Platform Engine server installer, the Content Platform Engine client installer, and the CPE Client Tools downloads.
For access to the downloads log on to your Passport Advantage account and search for the following:

Platforms
The peclient.zip contains batch files for Microsoft Windows platforms and shell scripts for UNIX platforms, including Red Hat Linux and Mac OSX.
The shell scripts for vwtool and pelog run on any version of UNIX that runs Java.
For the GUI tools- Process Designer, Process Configuration Console and Process Administrator, which use Java Swing- X Window System support is also required.  These GUI tools are supported on Windows and x86 Linux platforms (RHEL, SLES).
PE Client Tool Installation and configuration instructions are included in the PDF files in each CPE Client Tools download.
