How to delete and edit namespaces in Cognos Analytics 11.

Question & Answer

Question

What is the method to remove namespaces and edit one namespace in Cognos Configuration and Cognos Administration for Cognos Analytics 11?

Answer

Steps on how to rename one namespace and delete the other namespaces in your Cognos installation are as follows:

1. Ensure each user has moved all their content in their ‘My Content’ location to a unique folder in ‘Team Content’ in Cognos Analytics.

2. Delete all namespaces which are no longer required in Cognos Configuration and re-start the Cognos service.

3. Login to Cognos Administration as an administrator.

4. Delete all namespaces in Cognos Administration (Cognos Administration > Security > Users, Groups and Roles > there should be a red X next to all namespaces that were deleted from Cognos Configuration) NOTE: once you delete all these namespaces, any content in users’ ‘My Content’ locations will be deleted and cannot be recovered.

5. For the remaining namespace that you did not remove in Cognos Configuration, you have the option to rename it or leave it as it is.

6. Users can now login to the remaining namespace and move the content they originally placed in ‘Team Content’ back to their ‘My Content’ locations.
