Summary
This document describes the process that may be used to deploy data source information from one Cognos environment to another.
Objective
In some cases, a Cognos Analytics Administrator may need to replicate their existing data source connections in a separate Cognos Analytics environment. The process described below allows the administrator to do so without having to rebuild the data sources from scratch.
Steps
To accomplish this task, the administrator will create a partial deployment archive in the source environment, export it, then import it to the target environment. The deployment archive will be empty, but it will include data source connection.
STEPS:
1. Create a new export deployment specification from within Cognos Administration > Configuration > Content Administration > New Export.
2. Define a Name, and optionally a description and screen tip for your deployment archive, select Next.
3. Choose "Select public folders, directory and library content", select Next.
4. When prompted to choose Public Folders, Directory, and Library Content, do not select any content, and leave all options 'unchecked'. Select Next.
5. When prompted to select Directory Content, click the check box next to "Include data sources and connections", and optionally 'Include Signons' and define conflict resolution as needed. Select Next.
6. Define General Options as needed including access permissions, or simply leave these values as default. Select Next.
7. Ensure your 'New Archive' is selected, define encryption for the archive as necessary, then proceed to review the export summary.
8. Save, and Run the deployment export.
The result is a deployment archive which is saved to the location you've defined. Although no content was selected, this archive does indeed include all data source information. This archive may then be imported to the target environment in order to replicate the data sources there.

Additional Information
When including Data Source information in a deployment, note that it is not possible to select certain data sources. All data sources in the source environment will be included in the deployment.
