Question & Answer
Question
How and why would you copy a user’s profile in Cognos Analytics 11?
Answer
The following reasons why you would consider copying a user’s profile in Cognos are:
· A user changes names and you are setting up an account in the new name.
· A user moves to another namespace or your organisation changes namespaces and new accounts must be set up.
· Many new, similar user accounts must be created.
· To save user profiles as a backup.
Method of copying a user’s profile:
1. Log in to the Cognos Analytics 11 welcome dashboard as a System Administrator and click the ‘Manage’ tab.
2. Select the ‘Administration Console’ option.
3. Click the ‘Security’ tab.
4. From the list of available namespaces, choose the one where the user’s profile that you want to copy is located.
5. Against the chosen user within the namespace, click ‘More…’.
6. Within the ‘Perform an action – CognosAdmin’ explorer, click ‘Copy this user’s profile…’.
7. Choose which profile settings you want to copy by selecting the tick box against the following options: ‘Preferences’, ‘Portal tabs and personal folders content’ and ‘Personal folders content’.
8. If you wish to remove the original user profile from the source namespace after copying, tick the box against ‘Delete the source user’s profile after the copy completes’.
9. Click ‘Copy’ to complete the process.
NOTE: you can use a temporary user profile to create a profile backup if you want to delete and recreate the same user.
