How can I check or verify a USS path within TSO
Objective
Lets say you're doing an SMP/E RECeive and APPLY, and the process calls for a certain USS path, but you want to verify the path first, how do you do this?
Steps
There's a couple of ways of doing this, all require that you logon to TSO and are on the Primary Option Menu;
1) One way is to select option 6, to get to the ISPF Command Shell.
a) Then type OMVS and hit Enter. Type CD /usr/lpp/netview and hit Enter. If the path exists on your system, you will see something like this:
Then you can issue the LS command to confirm what's in this directory, or whether it contains more directories.
To get out of this, just type Exit, and hit Enter twice, to get back to the ISPF Command Shell.
2) Another way, is to type ISHELL on the ISPF Command Shell dialog, and hit Enter. Then type /usr/lpp/netview
And hit Enter, to see something like the following, where you can type 'S' and hit Enter to see what in that directory or file:
To get out of this dialog, just hit F3 until you get back to where you want to be.
3) Another way is to navigate to option 3;17, where you can type the USS path in as follows:
If you hit Enter, you will see something like this:
To get out of this dialog, just hit F3 to get back to where you came from.
4) An easy way to use option #3 above, is to merely type the udlist /usr/lpp/neview command from the TSO Primary Option Menu;
When you hit Enter, you will see something like this:
You can move your cursor down the Command column and select the directory, or navigate using the dot (leaves you where you are) or double dot (takes you up one level).
To get out of this dialog, just hit F3 until you get back to where you want/need to be.
