Question & Answer
Question
What options are available to help with changing the data source for a package in FM?
Cause
The developer needs to update an existing package's data source and re-publish the same model with different data source.
Answer
Depending on the scenario and desired results, there are different options (i.e.) overwriting the the package, or simply changing the data source name, etc.
- If you do not need to overwrite the package with new data, you wouldn't need to remap the data. Otherwise, see Procedure for Remapping objects to new sources
- Data sources can have more than one connection, so we can prompt for which connection to use at run time, or enable/disable connections you want/don't want.
- Or, use a macro in the FM model to prompt for which data source you want to use at run time.
- If you simply want to change the package to use one data source for another, just change it in the data source properties in FM before publishing.
- As for switching the data source, once the package is published, simply change the data source connection in CA to point to the desired DB
