Objective
The goal of this topic is to show how to capture the Survey using the SmartStart tool on Proliant Servers and Blades (P & C class) Gen 2 -7 (ILO, ILO2, ILO3) and by using the embedded “Intelligent Provisioning“ function on Servers and Blades (C class) Gen 8

Steps
1 Procedure to capture the Survey for Servers and Blades (P & C class) Gen 2 -7 (ILO, ILO2, ILO3)
1.1 Download the appropriate SmartStart tool for your server from the HP support web site, and create a bootable CD or USB key.
1.2 Insert the SmartStart CD or USB key, power on the system and allow the machine to boot from it. Ensure the boot priority is set to the appropriate device in F9 RBSU.
1.3 Once the machine has booted it shows the following screen. By default the log is collected in English. Please don't change this. It's important to capture the Survey in English. Choose the appropriate keyboard layout and click “Next“
1.4 Select “Agree”
1.5 Select “Maintenance”

1.7 By default the Survey tab should be highlighted and you should be on the Survey screen. If not, click the Survey tab at the top of the page. Again by default the view level is set to “Summary” which will provide a very basic level of information when displayed. For support purposes we require a lot more information so select “Advanced” in the view level. Also set the categories section to “All” as opposed to “overview”. Click save. If a FDD isn’t present a USB key is required.
NOTE : the screen shots above were captured using SmartStart cd version 8.40. When using other SmartStart versions the graphics could be different, but the concepts remains the same.
