When a FlashCore Module (FCM) fails there is a chance that other FCMs in the same control enclosure may fail at the same time, triggered by the failure of the first drive. If enough additional drives fail this can take the array offline and cause a loss of access to data.
All systems with FCMs that do not have the APAR installed are exposed. Systems without FCMs are not affected.
This issue is resolved by APAR HU02313 in 8.4.0.2.
This issue is also resolved by APAR HU02313 in 8.2.1.12 and 8.3.1.4, however due to an unrelated issue affecting these specific releases, IBM strongly recommends users do not upgrade to these releases and instead upgrade to 8.2.1.13 or 8.3.1.5.
