Fixes

This image is built for the 7042-CR7 model based off the fixes provided for the xSeries equivalent model system the 7914. IBM recommends updating the firmware on the HMC to ensure critical fixes are installed.

For the updates included in this package level, please refer to the main 7914 page link for this system type available at System x3550 M4, 7914 (All platforms) or by navigating from the main Fix Central site by selecting "7914 (System x3550 M4)" under Product Selector* and "All" for Operating system*.

Installation

Instructions for downloading, burning, and installing this image

  1. Burn the iso image provided and specified above in these instructions.
NOTE: It is recommended to use the slowest burn speed allowed by your application. Burning at a fast speed can cause the media to become non-bootable.
  2. Insert the DVD into the HMC DVD drive and reboot the HMC from the iso image.
  3. The utility will first detect if the HMC is set to the system x corresponding type (ie. 7914 for a CR7). If the type is not 7914, then it will change it to 7914 and will then reboot the HMC. If this happens, just allow the HMC to boot from DVD again.
  4. The utility will load the IBM UpdateExpress System Pack Installer. An update comparison will start immediately. This comparison will determine which updates are applicable to the system.
  5. When completed, a list of pre-selected update recommendations will be displayed, including IMM, uEFI, DSA, and other component specific firmware (for example; HDD, RAID). A 60 second counter will be started to auto-update the system. Click "Next" on the lower right corner to continue.
  6. On the next panel shown, do not modify anything, just click on the bottom right button to start the updating process.
  7. Verify that all updates complete successfully and the levels displayed match the levels delivered in this package, then click "Next".
  8. Optionally, view the log or just click "Next".
  9. When you are returned to the "Welcome to ToolsCenter" screen, click on "Exit" on the left menu.
  10. Click OK on the confirmation panel.
  11. Upon exiting, the model of the HMC will be set back to 7042-CR7, and the HMC will be shutdown.
  12. When the "Power Down" line is displayed, press and hold the 'Power On' button on the HMC until it powers off (5-10 seconds).
  13. Press the 'Power On' button again to start the system and immediately after, press the eject button on the DVD drive.
  14. You may see a warning about region specific updates upon boot. This is normal. Do NOT power off the HMC.
  15. You may also see the HMC go through the initialization phase multiple times.

If any problems are encountered during the BoMC update and assistance is needed, please call 1-800-IBM-SERV to open a hardware ticket.
