BIOS updates
HMC MTM Image Description Level Date
7042-CR5 D6E148B.ISO D6E148B 1.08 2010-07-14

Follow these steps to update the current BIOS revision level on your HMC.

Create an ISO image on CD

  1. Download the D6E148B.ISO to your Windows PC.
  2. Place a CD into your Windows PC CD/DVD drive.
  3. Burn the image as an ISO image to CD.

Update the BIOS

The BIOS update procedure contains several steps.

The uEFI update is complete.

  1. Find and record the machine type and model (MTM) number of your HMC as follows:

Check the label on the front of the HMC.

Run the lshmc -v | grep TM command.

    The MTM should be 7042-CR5

NOTE: If the MTM is not 7042-CR5, it will be updated during the update automatically.

  2. Place the bootable CDROM you created in the HMC CD/DVD drive, and then reboot the HMC.

If the CDROM does not boot to the BIOS menu, you may need to alter the HMC's startup device list press F12 for Select Boot Device and then boot from the CD/DVD drive.

The system should boot to a screen that has the following menu and 2 options:
    This program will:
-change the Machine Type and Model of the system
    -flash IMM code.
    -flash the uEFI code.
-apply changes to the uEFI to set HMC defaults
    -flash Diagnostic (DSA) code.

Type 1 then Enter to flash uEFI, IMM. and change the Machine Type and Model.
Type 3 then Enter to exit to the command line.

  3. Select option 1 and press enter. The IMM, uEFI, and DSA will be flashed. Answer "Y" when prompted to continue with the update during the IMM and uEFI flash. Do not power off the HMC until the updates are complete.
  4. After the uEFI, IMM, and DSA have updated, the screen displays "Updates complete. Please Reboot". Remove the CD-ROM, and then reboot the HMC.
  5. Verify updates as follows:
    1. Press F1 during bootup, and then select System Information -> Product Data. The following levels should be shown.
      UEFI: v1.08 (D6E148B)
      IMM: v1.14 (YUOO73M)
      Diag: 3.01.60 (DSYT60K)
    2. Run lshmc -b from the HMC CLI. The command output should return "bios=D6E148B-1.08"
