Symptom

The IBM eServer xSeries 200 server hangs at a blank screen when booting to the ServerGuide CD or UpdateXpress CD. The hang condition occurs after the initial IBM splash screen.

Affected configurations

The system is an xSeries 200 server, type 8478, any model.

The BIOS levels affected are 29 and 30.

The system has the symptom described above.

Solution

Download and apply IBM eServer xSeries 200 Flash BIOS Update Diskette version 63330A31.4M (Build ID: EXJT31A).

Additional information

Some xSeries 200 servers shipped with Build Level 29 and 30 of the BIOS which results in a hang condition when booting to the ServerGuide CD or UpdateXpress.
 
Note: BIOS 29 and 30 do not support booting from ServerGuide 6.0.3, ServerGuide 6.0.4 or UpdateXpress.
