Question & Answer
Question
IBM Security Guardium Data Protection for Databases provides Security Assessment tests to help harden your critical database systems and flag known vulnerabilities. Some of those tests are specific to database clusters.
Does an Oracle RAC One deployment with a single node still count as a cluster?
Answer
Yes. Even though RAC One has a single node, the fields checked by Guardium Security Assessment tests should match the values for a cluster. Specifically,
select name, value from v$parameter where upper(name) = 'REMOTE_LISTENER';
select name, value from v$parameter where upper(name) like 'CLUSTER%';
The tests check to ensure ...
CLUSTER = TRUE
REMOTE_LISTENER != NULL
If REMOTE_LISTENER is NULL or if CLUSTER =FALSE Guardium will fail the test. This aligns with the correct default Oracle configuration.
