Troubleshooting
Problem
Guardium KTAP does not load, STAP may install but KTAP is not loaded. In the ktap.log you see error messages relating to "tar". For example: tar (child): gzip: Cannot exec: Bad address tar (child): Error is not recoverable: exiting now tar: Child returned status 2 tar: Error is not recoverable: exiting now
Cause
The KTAP module to be loaded as part of the install is located inside the modules.tgz file. To extract the module "tar" command on the UNIX system must be working correctly.
Diagnosing The Problem
After install, check in the <guardium install directory>/modules/KTAP/KTAP.log
If you see tar errors, for example:
Searching for modules in /usr/local/GIM/modules/KTAP/9.0.0_r79390_1-1438691352/modules-*.tgz
tar (child): gzip: Cannot exec: Bad address
tar (child): Error is not recoverable: exiting now
tar: Child returned status 2
tar: Error is not recoverable: exiting now
There was a problem loading the KTAP due to tar problem.
Resolving The Problem
Working tar command is a requirement to load a KTAP. If you are getting errors like the above, work with the server administrator to understand the problem, for example by checking if tar works on test files.
