Troubleshooting
Problem
You successfully installed an IBM SPSS Statistics product on a Mac computer. When you start the License Authorization Wizard (LAW) to enter the authorization code for licensing. You receive the following message: "Warning! You do not have the correct administrator privileges to license this product. Log in as administrator and try again, or contact your network administrator to correct this issue. " Once this message is displayed the only option available is "OK" and you cannot enter your authorization code.
Resolving The Problem

If you encounter this message, perform the following procedure:
If open, close the IBM SPSS Statistics product.
Statistics Release 28 and after and Statistics Subscription
- If open, close the License Authorization Wizard.
- Open Finder.
- Select the 'Go' menu.
- Select the 'Utilities' menu.
- Open the Terminal program (/Applications/Utilities/Terminal.app)
- Type (copy and paste) the following command to change directory to the SPSS Statistics installation folder:
cd /Applications/
- Press the Enter or Return key on the keyboard.
- Type (copy and paste) the following command:
sudo chown -R root:admin "IBM SPSS Statistics"
- Press the Enter or Return key on the keyboard.
- Close Terminal.
- Launch the License Authorization Wizard.
- License your IBM SPSS Statistics product.
Statistics Release 27
- If open, close the License Authorization Wizard.
- Open Finder.
- Select the 'Go' menu.
- Select the 'Utilities' menu.
- Open the Terminal program (/Applications/Utilities/Terminal.app)
- Type (copy and paste) the following command to change directory to the SPSS Statistics installation folder:
cd /Applications/
- Press the Enter or Return key on the keyboard.
- Type (copy and paste) the following command:
sudo chown -R root:admin "IBM SPSS Statistics 27"
- Press the Enter or Return key on the keyboard.
- Close Terminal.
- Launch the License Authorization Wizard.
- License your IBM SPSS Statistics product.
Statistics Release 26
- If open, close the License Authorization Wizard.
- Open Finder.
- Select the 'Go' menu.
- Select the 'Utilities' menu.
- Open the Terminal program (/Applications/Utilities/Terminal.app)
- Type (copy and paste) the following command to change directory to the SPSS Statistics installation folder:
cd /Applications/IBM/SPSS/Statistics/
- Type (copy and paste) the following command:
sudo chown -R root:admin 26
- Close Terminal.
- Launch the License Authorization Wizard.
- License your IBM SPSS Statistics product.
Statistics Release 25
- If open, close the License Authorization Wizard.
- Open Finder.
- Select the 'Go' menu.
- Select the 'Utilities' menu.
- Open the Terminal program (/Applications/Utilities/Terminal.app)
- Type (copy and paste) the following command to change directory to the SPSS Statistics installation folder:
cd /Applications/IBM/SPSS/Statistics/
- Type (copy and paste) the following command:
sudo chown -R root:admin 25</code
- Press the Enter or Return key on the keyboard.
- Close Terminal.
- Launch the License Authorization Wizard.
- License your IBM SPSS Statistics product.
To confirm the changes have been made
(1) In the Terminal window change directory to the following path (example for release 26)
cd /Applications/IBM/SPSS/Statistics/26/SPSSStatistics.app/Contents
Then, type the following:
ls -l
(2) Press the Enter or Return key on the keyboard.
If you see some or all of subfolders shows a group ownership other than 'admin' (as displayed in Picture1), the procedure did not succeed.
