FTP to an NFS Mounted Directory

Troubleshooting


Problem

This document contains the requirements for FTPing to an NFS mounted directory.

Resolving The Problem

Problem:

When using FTP from a PC to a mounted directory in the IBM® OS/400® or IBM® i5/OS® Integrated File
System directory, the PC receives the error unable to open or create file to receive data. The FTP
server job log shows message CPDA1B9 RC1:

Message ID . . . . . . . . . : CPDA1B9
Message file . . . . . . . . : QCPFMSG
Library . . . . . . . . . : QSYS

Message . . . . : An error has occurred in the Network File System (NFS).
Cause . . . . . : An error has occurred in the Network File System (NFS).

The reason code is 1. Reason codes and their meanings are as follows:
1The *RPC NFS server daemon is not responding.
2The *NSM NFS server daemon is not responding.
3The UDP handle is not operational.
4The TCP handle is not operational.
5The server is not responding, still trying.
6The server is not responding, aborted.
7The server responded.
8The local *NLM NFS server daemon is not responding, still trying.
9The local *NLM NFS server daemon is not responding, aborted.
10The local *NLM NFS server daemon responded.

Resolution:

The NFS server must be started on the OS/400 or i5/OS with the mounted directory. The OS/400 or i5/OS was acting as the client in the NFS connection.
