FSFC Features and Upgrades - 4.4

General Page

Current GA for all customers is the March 5th, 2019 4.3 build.

Version 4.4 is only for specifically targeted customers. Most of our existing customers, including new implementations, should remain on 4.3.

  • Features added in 4.4

PowerHA Tools for IBM i 4.4 is now available for select customers. It has all the features and fixes from 4.3, and adds the following:

    • Support for more than 60 WRKCSE Environments

    • Support for CSM Safeguarded Copies

    • Support for Physical / Virtual Isolation

  • Upgrading to 4.4 from a prior release

Upgrading to 4.4 is only recommended from the March 5th build of 4.3 - upgrading from any other build or release will require manually recreating all WRKCSE, WRKCSEDTA and WRKCSECRDL entries.

All the controllers and source LPARs in a cluster must be at the same version (i.e. 4.4). We strongly recommend that they also all be at the same build date. The version and build date is stored in data area QZRDHASM/BUILD.

The 4.4 controllers will support non-cluster source LPARs running at 4.3 or 4.4, which facilitates upgrading source LPARs in stages.

    To update the controllers:

    1. Upgrade the controllers to the 3/5/2019 (or newer) build of 4.3
    2. Ensure no STRFSFLASH or STRFLASH or SWCSE commands are in process.
    3. End the toolkit subsystem:
    4. ENDSBS QZRDFSR *IMMED
    5. Issue QZRDHASM/DMPINF ENV(*ALL) EXTDLOGS(*NO) to generate a text file with all of the WRKCSE / WRKCSEDTA information.
    6. Save the DDD information:
    7. - Create a directory for them: MKDIR '/tmp/ddd43backups'  (call the directory whatever you want)
    8. - Save the information: QZRDHASM/SAVDDD PATH('tmp/ddd43backups')
    9. On each controller, issue the restore command:
    10. RSTLIB SAVLIB(QZRDHASM) DEV(*SAVF) SAVF(QGPL/QZRDHASM44) MBROPT(*ALL) ALWOBJDIF(*ALL) OMITOBJ((QZRDHASM/*ALL *DTAQ))
    11. Update to the most recent Secure Java jar file.
    12. Download from here: https://sourceforge.net/projects/jsch/files/jsch.jar/0.1.55/jsch-0.1.55.jar/download
    13. Place it on both controllers in /QIBM/Qzrdhasm/ssh/
    14. On one controlling partition, migrate the existing DDD to the new format:
    15. - Issue the command CALL QZRDHASM/QZRDIAMIGW
    16. On each controlling partition:
    17. - issue the command SETUPFSFC NODEROLE(*CTL)

    To update a source LPAR:
    1. End the toolkit subsystem:
    2. ENDSBS QZRDFSR *IMMED
    3. On each source partition, issue the restore command:
    4. RSTLIB SAVLIB(QZRDHASM) DEV(*SAVF) SAVF(QGPL/QZRDHASM44) MBROPT(*ALL) ALWOBJDIF(*ALL) OMITOBJ((QZRDHASM/*ALL *DTAQ))
    5. On each source partition, issue the SETUPFSFC NODEROLE(*SRC) command
    6. After these steps have been performed, it is recommended that CHKFSFLASH be performed prior to the next planned flashcopy to test the configuration.
  • Updating 4.4 to a newer build date

All the controllers and source LPARs in the cluster must be at the same version (i.e. 4.4). We strongly recommend that they also all be at the same build date. The version and build date is stored in data area QZRDHASM/BUILD.

    1. Ensure no STRFSFLASH or STRFLASH or SWCSE commands are in process.
    2. End the toolkit subsystem:
      ENDSBS QZRDFSR *IMMED
    3. Place the savefile on each controller and source LPAR and restore into QZRDHASM
      RSTLIB SAVLIB(QZRDHASM) DEV(*SAVF) SAVF(QGPL/QZRDHASM44) MBROPT(*ALL) ALWOBJDIF(*ALL) OMITOBJ((QZRDHASM/*ALL *DTAQ))

    4. On each controlling partition issue the command SETUPFSFC NODEROLE(*CTL)

    5. On each source partition, issue the command SETUPFSFC NODEROLE(*SRC)

After these steps have been performed, it is recommended that CHKFSFLASH be performed prior to the next planned flashcopy to test the configuration.
