Problem
This document addresses the issue faced when using words or phrases with apostrophes in report filters in Cognos. This issue is relevant for users using Cognos in other languages e.g. Spanish, French etc. where many words or phrases have apostrophes in them that may change/effect the syntax of the filter expression e.g. d'esports, d'Avaluacio.
Resolving The Problem
To resolve the problem carry out the following steps:
- Add 2 apostrophes in the place of a single apostrophe in the phrases in the filter expression e.g. d'esports becomes d''esports. This should fix the syntax of the expression.
- Test the filter expression for errors.
The issue should no longer occur as the correct syntax is now being used.
