Resolving The Problem


If your tape backup is failing before completion, please check the following:
  • Check the SCSI cable for bent pins and confirm that termination is set correctly.
  • If your tape device is a Travan drive (TR4 or TR5-NS/20), retension the media and load the latest firmware from the IBM Personal Systems Support Web site for your tape device.
  • Set the Max Sync Transfer Rate to the lowest rate available (5,10) for the tape drive SCSI ID.
  • Try media from a different batch.
  • Update the firmware on the drive.
  • Try to use the native operating system backup software (NTBackup, SBackup, or Tar).
    Note: To use NTBackup, it is necessary to stop any services of the current backup software.
  • Try different SCSI cable.

If the problem is still unresolved, contact an IBM support technician at your local IBM Support Center. IBM Support will likely request hardware, software, and/or operating system logs to evaluate the problem further.
