Exporting a JAR file to a project folder outside the workspace results in the JAR file getting saved inside the workspace

Troubleshooting

Problem

Attempts to select an IBM Rational Application Developer for WebSphere Software project folder of a project ouside the workspace as the JAR file's export destination using a path relative to the workspace results instead of an absolute path to the external project.

Symptom

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Create a new Java project, selecting Create project from existing source and using a nonexistent, temporary directory outside the workspace.
  2. Select menu File > Export..., choose a .jar file, and click Next
  3. Select the new project in the Resources to Export
  4. Browse for export destination, select the project folder and enter a filename (example.jar).
  5. Click Finish

    Actual result:
A workspace relative path is shown as the destination. When finishing the export, RAD asks if it should create the folder inside the workspace and if confirmed, the Jar is exported into the new folder within the workspace.

    Expected result:
The jar is stored in the project directory outside the workspace.

Cause

This issue has been identified as a product defect and logged under APAR PM31352.

Resolving The Problem

WORKAROUND:

Type the full path to the project directory outside the workspace into the export destination box manually.
