The estimated number of cells exceeds the allowable value of 100000. Apply filtering to projected sets to reduce the number of cells

Troubleshooting

Problem

When you create a Crosstab visualization that projects thousands of data points, you might encounter the following error message:

The estimated number of cells exceeds the allowable value of 100000. Apply filtering to projected sets to reduce the number of cells.

Error message

Cause

This error occurs because a size limit is now enforced on queries sent from dashboards. If a query exceeds the size limit, no data is returned, and the visualization displays the error message.

Resolving The Problem

As the error message suggests, apply filters to reduce the size of the query to get a functioning visualization.
