Troubleshooting
Problem
Trying to start Cognos service from Cognos Configuration results in the following
Symptom
Error Message:
The Instruction at "0x00000000" referenced memory at "0x00000000". The memory could not be "written".
Click on OK to terminate the
program
Click on CANCEL to debug the program
Cause
Data Execution Prevention setting on the Cognos server is set to apply to all processes.
Resolving The Problem
Change the Data Execution Prevention setting on Cognos server to only apply to essential Windows programs and services. Steps: 1. Launch Control Panel in Window
2. Select System
3. Select the Advanced tab
4. Click on "Settings" button in the "Performance" section
5. Select the "Data Execution Prevention" tab
6. Select the first option Turn on DEP for essential Windows programs and services only
7. Restart Window
