Troubleshooting
Problem
When a user tries to browse a Rational DOORS URL, he receives the error: Unable to open DOORS URL. Failed to start DOORS client. (You must have access to an authenticated DOORS session in order to open a DOORS URL)
Symptom
Unable to launch the IBM Rational DOORS client and unable to navigate to required path in the URL
Resolving The Problem
You can increase the time that the Rational DOORS client waits for Flex to issue a license and also the time that Rational DOORS waits before a login takes place. The parameters on the protocol handler control this (measured in half seconds).
To do this, navigate to the following registry entry:
\HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\doors\shell\open\command
Check if the value is
C:\IBM\Rational\DOORS\9.x\bin\protocolhandler.exe -r 240 -s 60 -url %1
If yes, increase the time-out by a factor of 2 and it should look similar to the following:
C:\IBM\Rational\DOORS\9.x\bin\protocolhandler.exe -r 480 -s 120 -url %1
Where
-s is license check out
-r is client login time
Both take values in half seconds.
You can modify these values to increase the time-out by which Rational DOORS wait for more time before getting timed out.
NOTE: The path of the protocol handler will change for DOORS 8.x
