IBM Support

Empty result when reporting against IBM Planning Analytics

Troubleshooting

Problem

Reporting against IBM Planning Analytics using the new Planning Analytics interface, results in empty cells being returned in the report output in IBM Cognos Analytics 11.0.6 or higher.. Same might have worked well against the old TM1 interface.

Symptom

Cell values are empty

Environment

IBM Cognos Analytics 11.0.6 +

IBM Planning Analytics 2.0.0 +

Diagnosing The Problem

Cell values in a crosstab are empty, but they do contain rule based values in Planning Analytics.

Resolving The Problem

By default a NON EMPTY (null suppression) is applied in the MDX send to Planning Analytics through the new Planning Analytics interface. Same is happening when qsUseNativeTM1Engine is set to true for the Query Service and the old TM1 interface.

Having null suppression applied can result into no data being returned, when rules do not have the expected Feeders or when a Weight of 0 is used on feederless rules.

The same behavior can be seen in Architect, by creating a cube view with the same context as in Authoring and applying null suppression on both rows and columns.

To resolve this behavior, correct the Feeders or weight of the measures.

As an alternative, if the TM1 Server is highly relying on rules, and these match your day-to-day operations in Planning Analytics just fine - create a separate cube just for reporting, which only contain the final results of the rules, but no rules itself.
